James W. Patton, son of David and Mary Patton, was born in Montgomery County Dec. 16, 1856, and died June 6, 1900, aged 43 years, 5 months and 20 days. He was the youngest of a family of twelve children, seven of whom have previously departed this life, leaving four living, viz: Mrs. Harry Types, Albert Patton, who lived in Missouri, Mrs. W. Richard and Mrs. Laura Linn, of Indianapolis. He was married to Miss Lida Weaver Oct. 11, 1882, and to them was given five children. He joined the Christian Church at Walnut Chapel in 1891. He was made a Knight of Pythias in 1891 and was an honored member, having filled all the chairs, and at the time of his death was filling the chair of Past Chancellor. The funeral took place from the M. E. Church Thursday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. H. C. Riley, interment in the new K. of P. Cemetery. James Patton, of Walnut Township, died on Wednesday at half past one o’clock. He had been a sufferer from Bright’s disease for some time. The funeral took place on Thursday at the Mace M. E. Church, services by Rev. J. W. Riley, interment in the K. of P. Cemetery. Mr. Patton was 44 years of age and leaves a wife and five children.
